I'm currently going through Dark Souls 3, i have about 62-ish hours so far in the game. At the time of posting I only have Lord of Cinders to do, but I'm doing Painting world first (getting my ass kicked by that final boss lol). Here's my take on PvP: Although PvP is technically "opt-in" for DS3, it's not entirely true. To be invaded you require to be embered, which is fine, however killing a boss makes you embered automatically. This results in an annoying gameplay experience where there's a good chance you'll walk out of the boss fight arena and get invaded immediately without you wanting to do so. Unless there's some way to remove ember status without killing yourself, this is a bit of a problem design-wise imo. Another problem is that the player isn't prepared for this type of combat at all, since normal Human enemies are incredibly rare. The first one the player might encounter is the Master Katana Dude outside of Firelink and the Invader NPC "Holy Knight Hodrick" in The Undead Settlement. This is a problem, because these enemies are rare (or rely on the player being embered at specific parts of maps to even spawn), so the player isn't entirely trained in how to deal with Human opponents that can do everything they can (They're most likely used to normal enemies that have specific patterns to learn). Imo Invasions should be explained to Players a bit better, and there should be some sort of Human enemy that can respawn, which would allow the Player to get used to PvP Style combat (Which includes them healing from estus, rolling, parrying, etc). If the player was properly taught these things (at least in the context of DS3, i have no idea how Elden Ring handles it), I feel like attitudes could change slightly and people would enjoy it more. Players shouldn't need to look up info on forums/message boards/the wiki or have their only experience being surprised by an invasion they didn't want to partake in.

Well if you are a beginner I don't know if level 75 is actually enough to go through the whole game, especially if you want to beat the bosses in the Old Hunters DLC 😅

I picked up the game on the steam sale a few days ago, and last night I finally got to Margit and beat him using a shortbow and a dagger after about 2 hours of trying. I got pretty annoyed with the fight, so I’ve been looking around at people’s opinions on it, and I gotta say: I really agree with Anderson about these “dice roll” attacks. Margit getting a quick optional followup after almost every attack/combo in phase 2 led to me naturally doing the same thing Anderson, and you, had mentioned: retreating and throwing knives (or in my case, plinking with a bow) to try and get the boss to do a more favorable attack that I could punish. And sure, it would make Margit get aggressive and approach, but if he did an attack that could have instant optional follow ups, I found it best to just run away and try to bait another attack instead of gambling on not getting punished for hitting back. You mention that that’s not waiting since I *am* engaging with the boss, but on the other hand, I have to agree with the other guy that it doesn’t feel fun. I felt like I won really fast after I started doing that, not because I got good- but because I just disrespected the fight by not engaging with attacks that could have the optional followup (which is like 80% of them) and instead just abused his AI to fish for punishable attacks. Sure, I beat the boss solo without any summons or anything, but it didn’t feel very rewarding. It felt like getting an A on an exam that only grades questions I chose to answer, or like winning a game of poker where I could just draw a new hand any time I got one I didn’t like. Personally I think that if a boss comes down to just running away and trying to bait out the 20% of their kit that’s easy to punish because the rest of it is gambling, it’s just not a very good design. But what do I know, maybe I just didn’t git gud enough, or maybe it’s a Margit specific issue and I’ll adore the rest of the bosses. We’ll see, I’m still excited to play more :)
